Get to know our Vet, Dr. Melissa – what she loves about working with animals and the advice she wishes every pet owner knew.
What inspired you to become a veterinarian?
I have always loved animals and grew up with a menagerie of pets. I also have a strong interest in medicine, so becoming a veterinarian was the perfect combination of the two interests.
Do you have any pets of your own?
I have a Cocker Spaniel Cross named Zoe and a fish tank.
What do you love most about working in this community?
I love getting to know people and their pets. I also enjoy running into people I know at work and meeting their furry family members.
What’s one piece of advice you wish every pet owner knew?
Preventative medicine is always better than treating disease. Feeding a good quality food, keeping the pet lean, staying up to date with flea, tick and worming preventatives and maintaining good oral health can avoid a lot of disease.
Do you have a favourite animal? What is it and why?
My favourite animal is the turtle. I am honestly not sure why, I have always loved them since was young.
